Tennessee and Virginia litigation in State and Federal courts

A Bristol law firm in tune with your needs, I offer expertise acquired from decades of experience in a wide scope of legal areas.

Divorce

I handle more divorce cases than any other type of case. Divorce addresses a number of family law areas, which usually include:

  • Child Custody
  • Child Support
  • Visitation
  • Spousal Support/Alimony
  • Property Division

Mediation is an effective method in resolving divorce issues, and some courts require it before they will hear a contested case. I am able to finalize most divorces through mediation or negotiated settlements. Unless there are burning issues that require a trial, most people prefer spending less money and time through mediation or negotiated settlement, so they can get on with their lives. I can bring in financial professionals, appraisers, and other experts, as needed, to help you reach a fair settlement.

The advantage of hiring a seasoned trial lawyer is the efficiency and leverage I can bring to negotiations along with the competence to prevail if a trial becomes necessary.

Because your divorce can affect your quality of life for years to come, it is wise to choose an attorney who is skilled and experienced in divorce cases.

Personal Injury/Wrongful Death

When someone else injures you in a car accident, truck accident, or some other motor vehicle collision, you have the right to receive compensation for your injury.

When serious injury results in death, the surviving family can pursue a wrongful death claim.

The stress that families and the injured experience is often overwhelming. Mounting medical bills, lost income, little capability for future income, along with pain and suffering, can turn your life upside down. While motor vehicle accidents are the most common type of personal injury case, there are also other types of personal injury, some of which include:

  • Work Accidents
  • Construction Accidents
  • Railroad Accidents
  • Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect
  • Wrongful Death
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Head Trauma
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Dog Bites
  • Premises Liability
  • Slip and Fall
  • Toxic Substances
  • Products Liability or Defective Products
  • Medical Malpractice

I skillfully negotiate with insurance companies or take your case to trial if needed to obtain fair compensation. My access to expert witnesses and other specialized professionals helps me evaluate and substantiate damages, so I can seek the maximum recovery you need.

Obtaining legal help can relieve many of your problems. Allow an experienced personal injury lawyer to handle your case while you concentrate on getting back on your feet again.

Social Security Disability (SSD)

When a client is turned down for SSD, I represent them in an SSD hearing. I help you with medical report information for the claim and can take you through all stages of the SSD appeals process, which includes:

  • Stage One. I file your initial claim at the local Social Security Office.
  • Stage Two. If your claim is denied, I send a request for reconsideration.
  • Stage Three. If your reconsideration is denied, I send a request for hearing. I accompany you to the hearing and represent your appeal. Hearings are generally short, lasting under an hour, and are informal.
  • Stage Four. If the appeal is approved, you are sent a note of decision and a note of award. If the appeal is denied, I can appeal by sending a brand new claim to the Appeals Council.
  • Stage Five. If your appeal is denied by the Appeals Council, my last recourse is to appeal in federal court. The federal court will decide whether your case was mishandled in the administrative hearing. If your case is deemed mishandled, you will be granted another hearing.

I handle SSD cases on a contingency fee basis. Under federal law, an attorney can charge no more than 20 percent of the amount awarded. An initial consultation to discuss your SSD claim is free and at no obligation.
